The learning environment at Harrisdale PS emphasises the varied future that our students have before them. We are committed to the continuous improvement of the school’s network, facilities, equipment and professional practice to deliver leading edge learning to our students.
Code Club is held on Tuesdays in the library from 3-4pm and students will use the school’s MacBook computers to code using a program called ‘Scratch’. This is a free program available for most home computers (iPads use the app ‘Scratch Jnr’).
Code Club simply provides another opportunity to develop coding skills further outside of the classroom. All students at Harrisdale Primary School are taught coding/computational thinking in their classrooms as part of the Digital Technologies Curriculum.
Code Club is available to students in years 3, 4, 5 & 6. There are three or four cohorts each year. A cohort is a group of up to 16 children working together for 7-8 weeks.
I invite you and your child to fill out this survey form to indicate your child’s interest in joining our Code Club. Please answer honestly so that balanced Code Club cohorts can be created.
There are over 9,000 Code Clubs running around the world and official Code Club communities in 10 countries. Find out more at https://codeclubau.org/
The Harrisdale Primary School Library and Resource Centre is a modern and vibrant facility providing staff and students access to a range of both hard copy and ebook resources to enhance all learning areas. Our library collection is steadily growing and students are encouraged to visit the library before and after school with parents on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8:15am – 8:30am and 2:40pm – 3:00pm and also during their scheduled library borrowing day.

Starting in Term 2, 2017 the Year 4 and 5 cohort at Harrisdale Primary School will become a 1:1 Apple iPad learning environment. Each student is invited to BYO (Bring Your Own) Apple iPad Device and be a part of innovative teaching and learning opportunities.
There are several technical requirements and a list of apps that we ask are downloaded for the program. All of the information is available through the following document, alongside FAQ’s toward the end of the document.
In 2016 and 2017, parent seminars were held and a digital version of this is available below. We encourage you to ask questions if you have any and join us for Parent Seminars across the year as they arise to observe, share and learn about the innovative strategies which are occurring in classrooms.
An evolutionary approach to learning is upon us and we are excited to be a part of the journey in our 1:1 iPad Program at Harrisdale Primary School.
Harrisdale Primary School has partnered with a private company, Winthrop Australia, to provide iPads at a discount price to the parent community. Parents are not required to purchase their devices from Winthrop Australia.
