The learning environment at Harrisdale PS emphasises the varied future that our students have before them. We are committed to the continuous improvement of the school’s network, facilities, equipment and professional practice to deliver leading edge learning to our students.
Mr Thrupp will be running Code Club this year on Tuesday’s 3-4pm in the library. Following on from the expression of interest, you will receive an email to confirm the cohort that your child has been grouped into, as well as permission slips if your child will be involved in Term 1. Students will use the school’s MacBook computers to code using a program called ‘Scratch’. This is a free program available for most home computers (iPads use the app ‘Scratch Jnr’). Code Club simply provides another opportunity to develop coding skills further outside of the classroom. All students at Harrisdale Primary School are taught coding/computational thinking in their classrooms as part of the Digital Technologies Curriculum. Code Club is available to students in years 3, 4, 5 & 6. There are three or four cohorts each year. A cohort is a group of up to 16 children working together for 7-8 weeks. #getkidscoding There are over 9,000 Code Clubs running around the world and official Code Club communities in 10 countries. Each student is invited to BYO (Bring Your Own) Apple iPad Device and be a part of innovative teaching and learning opportunities. There are several technical requirements and a list of apps that we ask are downloaded for the program. All of the information is available through the following document, alongside FAQ’s toward the end of the document. A Parent Seminar is held in the later part of the year (Term 4) in anticipation for new enrolments or Year 3’s moving into Year 4 the following year. In addition to this Parent Seminar, a classroom meeting will be held for all Year 4’s or new enrolments at the beginning of the new school year. We encourage you to ask questions and join us for Parent Seminars across the year as they arise to observe, share and learn about the innovative strategies which are occurring in classrooms.
