At Harrisdale Primary School we are committed to helping our students achieve personal success, through both academic or non-academic pursuits. We believe that an explicit focus on effective teaching and social and emotional well-being creates the right conditions for our students to achieve their potential. Our classroom practice exemplifies our beliefs about teaching and learning – we put students first.

We personalise learning for each student, as we understand each of us needs different conditions to reach our potential. We help our students find their strengths and passions, be they academic,  sporting or cultural, and support them on their journey from Kindy to Year 6.

As a proud Independent Primary School, Harrisdale PS are leaders and we teach our students how to be leaders too, by developing their self-confidence and self-esteem, placing emphasis on reaching their full leadership potential.

Being successful requires courage and we promote this theme throughout our teaching practices. The Harrisdale PS community provides students with a place of belonging, where each student is valued for their unique contribution.

Our school supports each other but also teaches the importance of ‘being of service’ to humanity at a local, national and international level.

Students are at the centre of all that we do.

SCHOOL

Harrisdale Primary School opened its doors to students for the first time on February 1st, 2016 and has gained a reputation as an effective, progressive and contemporary school.

Located in the rapidly growing suburb of Harrisdale and servicing Kindergarten to Year 6, HPS is bordered by natural bushland to the east, sporting grounds to the south and housing developments to the remaining boundaries.

The student population is indicative of a diverse multi-cultural demographic with many nationalities represented.

Equipped with state of the art facilities and digital technologies, HPS delivers learning and teaching programs aligned to current research and best practice. It aims to provide an educational program of the highest standard. Facilities include purpose built early childhood (pre-primary ) buildings, a modern library, including hard copy and e-books, an indoor/outdoor undercover area, nature-scape play areas, purpose built music and art rooms and modern, contemporary classrooms.

The school is well equipped with digital technologies including Macbook laptops, iPads, short-throw digital projectors and Apple TVs. We continue to explore the innovative use of technology and strive to embed it constructively into our learning and teaching programs.

The school’s curriculum aligns to the West Australian Curriculum and Department of Education priorities of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and more recently, STEM or STEAM (Science, Technology, English, Arts and Mathematics).

The school works in collaboration and partnership with its families and wider school community to develop the vision and direction for the school’s future. It is in the process of developing its P&C Association and School Board.

Strong, well established partnerships with our local and broader communities enable us to promote and sustain effective networks. We welcome the input of knowledge and skills, encourage different perspectives and embrace change to ensure that we grow as individuals and as a whole-school community.

HPS has grown into a school which has clearly established beliefs about teaching and learning.

  • Effective teaching that delivers meaningful learning and assessment derived from thoroughly researched pedagogical practices is the cornerstone of our learning programs.
  • Effective leadership for the present and the future ensures growth is sustained, maintained and evolving. The leadership team supports current practices, keeps abreast of future directions in education and provides the catalyst for ensuring the school adapts to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s education priorities.

Our leadership structure also supports the growth of future leaders through employing a distributed leadership model that recognises teachers as instructional leaders in their classrooms and future instructional leaders in schools.

HPS has sound review planning structures, resulting in excellent outcomes, as validated by ongoing school improvement processes and shared leadership approaches.
